What are exosomes?

Derived from stem cells exosomes are small lipid vesicles packed with bioactive molecules like nucleic acids and proteins, that serve as cellular messengers.  Already present in the skin these extracellular vesicles, are formed in the endosomes and are naturally secreted by cells in response to specific stimuli.  They penetrate the skin to activate various cell functions, delivering functional substances such as amino acids, peptides, and growth factors like collagen and elastin from donor cells to recipient cells, reprogramming them through this transfer to improve cellular function and the skins environment by regulating genes and guiding cell behaviour, ultimately benefiting skin health.

Exosomes in facials – the benefits..

As part of the ageing process the amount of exosomes naturally present in skin declines.  Overtime this can lead to loss of collagen and elasticity resulting in sagging skin and wrinkles and a compromised skin barrier function.  An impaired skin barrier overtime leads to slow skin cell turnover, slow wound healing and signs of dry, dehydrated skin.

In cosmetics, exosomes act as key cellular communicators, stimulating physiological processes that mimic natural intercellular communication for enhanced skin restoration and regeneration, rebuilding skin quality.

Dermalogica bi-phase Exobooster exosome technology combined with medical grade Microneedling empowers the skin to increase cell turnover, improve skin microbiome, helps reinforce skin health and offers innovative solutions for skin defense and vitality.

Types of Exosomes

There are different types of exosomes – plant exosomes, human exosomes and bacterial exosomes.  Bacterial exosomes show promising results for skin health.

Lactobacillus exosomes originate from a bacterial source familiar to the skin’s microbiome, and therefore interact more naturally with the skin, potentially easing their integration and effectiveness by reducing resistance typically encountered by foreign compounds. *Lactobacillus exosomes deliver superior results in skin recovery, rejuvenation, and overall skin health. **Dermalogicas lactobacillus Exobooster blend boosted by pro resolution technology surpasses human exosomes (the current gold standard).
